Rob Hirst-Hermans is the founder and creative director of The Room Service. He spent 15 years in New York agencies copywriting and creative-directing for some of the world’s biggest brands. He’s won awards. He’s made Super Bowl spots. Well, ok, he’s made one Super Bowl spot.

And yet, he couldn’t help feeling that sometimes, copywriters like him weren’t the right writers for the job. He felt the ad industry was ignoring an ocean of storytelling talent: the minds behind our favorite TV shows — the shows people skip ads to get back to. Maybe, just maybe, thought Rob, the way we get people to stop skipping ads is by making ads with the same people who make the shows they’re squished between.

The Room Service’s mission is to welcome TV writers into the commercial creative system, to unite the creative world powers of advertising and entertainment, to make ads funnier, and brand stories more powerful, than they’ve ever been before.
